The first prototypes of razors were identified in the Bronze Age. Bronze Age shaving tools have changed significantly in shape and size, but in terms of use, the mechanism is quite similar to modern razors. In the last few centuries, only three main types of razors have been invented – straight, disposable, and electric. Now we are going to reveal the difference between them.
What is the functional difference?
Here are the main differences in basic functionality between disposable/manual and electric shavers.
Disposable razor – With manual razors, hair is cut with a single stroke of the blade. The blade of a manual razor lifts the hair from the follicle before cutting it. Lifted hair is trimmed back below the skin’s surface for that smooth shave.
Electric razor – With an electric razor, the hair is cut between two blades. The shaver presses the skin and creates an arc wave. The skin comes into contact with the holes in the sheet and makes the hair more exposed
Both manual and electric razors have specific advantages and disadvantages, and your decision depends mainly on them.
Should I use a manual razor?
It offers closer shave for longer. The blades are easily replaced. It is usually the cheapest option available, but its cost accumulates over time. Manual razors are easy to clean and travel with you. However –
Dry shaving with a manual razor is not possible. Shaving lasts longer due to the use of toiletries such as shaving cream, foam, and aftershave solutions. Manual razor blades dull very quickly and need to be replaced every few days. Nicks, cuts, and ingrown hairs often occur, as you may have to go over the same area multiple times to get the closest shave. Disposable razors are less versatile as they require a wet shave and water. Some manual razors are very expensive.
Should I use an electric razor?
The rotating blades give a quick shave. The electric razor usually has an ergonomic handle design and is very comfortable to use, especially for the elderly. It is easy to clean. Just rinse under the tap. Some upgraded blades on electric head, face and best back shaver can be rinsed instantly under the tap water.
With electric shavers, you get a smooth shave without nicks and cuts, blade burns, bumps and ingrown hairs. It is perfect for sensitive skin. You get a hassle-free shaving experience as hair is collected on the blade thanks to built-in vacuum technology. Independent floating blades allow 360° contouring. It can be used both cordless and in “plug and shave” mode.
Portable and comfortable for travel, battery life indicator informs you exactly when to recharge the shaver. Both wet and dry shaving is possible. Some new models of waterproof electric shavers are 100% waterproof. They are more versatile – facial hair, beards, mustaches and sideburns can be shaved. The blades of electric razors are very hard and durable. Companies offer a manufacturer’s warranty to cover any defects.
A few drawbacks that hardly counts
Electric razors provide a clean shave, but the closest results are possible with manual razors. They are heavier than manual razors and larger. Higher initial investment is required to buy it.
